KasArtUK
Kathy is a fantastic local artist who specialises in pet portraits and abstract original art. She created her artwork as a hobby and has gradually expanded her reach to make a viable business.
KasArtUK had no existing branding so this project gave me freedom to create a mascot logo that matched the lovely characteristics of her work.
The idea
KasArtUK specialises in pet portrait commissions and uses a variety of mediums in her work, one of the most common being colour pencils. I wanted to create a mark which on quick glance could resemble an animal, but had a subtle nod to the artistic mediums she used.
The idea for this mascot comes from the shape of pencil shavings. This shape could be easily reproduced with two pointed stars with varying curvatures which help give the shape of coloured wood on the shavings. Ears were created by matching the curvature of these shavings and increasing their size. Finally a face made of simple shapes emphasised the fun nature of this design.
Additional assets
I created additional assets for the brand such as a simple square wordmark in a chunky imperfect font which gives it an organic feel.
Branching from this, a repeating checkerboard pattern of the mascot and wordmark was created. This makes great backgrounds for various media such as social posts, and for printed material like flyers or tissue paper for packaging.
